NEW DELHI: The revised syllabus for the BSc Program of Delhi University (DU) was passed by Vice Chancellor (VC) Deepak Pental, in a meeting with academic council on July 12.
This comes as a reaction to the constant disatisfaction expressed by faculty members of various science disciplines across colleges, even after minor changes have been made in the course over the past three years.

The revisions will be implemented for all three years of the program. However, the faculty does not seem happy with the decision. Abha Dev Habib, a member of academic council said: "Incorporating the changes at one go for all three years will create trouble. The timetable would have to be reworked which will hamper classes during the initial days of the session."
Said Virender Kumar, VC, Kirori Mal College: "Implementation of these changes for all years might be a problem at the college level. But, if it is for the benefit of the students, we will do the needful."
Those from the department of physical sciences claimed 90% of the recommendations made by teachers have been incorporated in the new syllabus, life sciences professors are at a loss. Explained Habib: "There is a huge mismatch between the theoretical and the practical part of the life sciences course. The revision of the courses should happen in a democratic way, not in a haste."
The pass percentage for the BSc program courses over the past years has been very low. Complaints by students for being overburdened have been made repeatedly.
However, says J K S Taank, vice principal, Deshbandhu College, instrumental in carrying out the changes: "Restructuring has been done in a student-centric manner and necessary changes have been made to reduce the workload."
